Since my birthday meal at the end of September, Sicily Restaurant in Chesterfield has quickly become my favourite Italian restaurant in Derbyshire. I’ve been at least three times in the last six months and every time I’ve left thinking how brilliant it is.
Everyone in my family is a huge fan of Italian food. My husband and I honeymooned there and it’s somewhere we both yearn to return to. We’ve tried a fair few Italian restaurants over the years – but the absolute current favourite is Sicily Restaurant located on Sheffield Road, just outside of the town centre.
Family-run and multi-award winning, it goes without saying that the food at Sicily is great – but they really have nailed the whole package. The service is spot on; there’s a lovely ambiance (it feels ‘right’ both for a quick midweek bite to eat and for a special celebration meal); it’s easy and free to park; super family friendly. It all just works, and we love it.

Food at Sicily Restaurant in Chesterfield
“Antipasto Sicily” (a generous sharing board “for two”) is an excellent introduction to their regular starters. My incredibly fussy eating six year old has developed quite the penchant for their chickpea fritters (please no one tell her they contain an actual pulse) whilst the truffle burrata mozzarella is insanely good.
Pictured is my Dad’s Frittura Mista (a classic combination of deep fried seafood). I love their simple tomato bruschetta, but the best starter I’ve had to date was from their specials board – giant garlicky prawns with white wine and a touch of chilli – absolutely amazing.

I’ve tried a range of their main courses, as has my extended family, and there’s not been one dud so far.

I can’t resist an authentic Italian pizza. My favourite here is the Vulcano with spicy salami, nduja Calabrese and fresh chilli oil. My daughter is also a fan. My Mum and brother rave about the pastas; my Dad loves the wine list, the Grappa and reminiscing about his travels and my husband likes their steak.

We’re usually a bit stuffed for dessert (pace yourselves!). From memory, the dessert menu is classic Italian favourites like tiramisu etc. On our last visit there was a pistachio themed special which (despite being a bit full) just sounded too tempting not to order. Oh my days, it was insanely good, and we devoured it collectively like a pack of wolves.

I feel like pistachio is having a bit of a foodie ‘moment’ and I am HERE for it. This was the first time I’ve tried pistachio liqueur and it absolutely won’t be the last.
As a family, we’re not the easiest bunch to please, but Sicily has not only made it to the regular rota, but it’s probably the current favourite (read about my other favourite restaurants in Chesterfield – and favourite Derbyshire restaurants).

Located half way between town and Casa, if you’re looking for bars nearby, I’d recommend Barca Bar at Casa Hotel (Sicily is walking distance from here) or head to Bottle & Thyme in Chesterfield town centre – a great place for cocktails.
