AD We recently enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Old Toffee Shop, a delightful holiday cottage in the pretty Peak District village of Tideswell. The charming stone building dating back to 1881 has been lovingly restored and refurbished into luxurious self-catering accommodation, sleeping four.

Entry is via the beautifully planted, sunny courtyard garden (which was magically lit by fairy lights at night) into the light and airy kitchen. There’s plenty of room to dine as a family here, and everything you could possibly need including Denby crockery and new appliances.

We were delighted to receive a handwritten card from the owners, Julie and Nigel, welcoming us to the property along with some goodies!

The Old Toffee Shop is beautifully decorated throughout – there’s a real cohesive feel to the place with a unifying colour scheme and lots of sweet touches. Something that also stood out to me was that every little need or want had been anticipated – from spare umbrellas to picnic equipment – Julie is clearly a host who cares deeply about her guests having the most delightful stay.

The comfy lounge features a log burner. We were blessed with beautiful summery weather but I can appreciate how lovely and cosy this would be in the cooler months. Imagine snuggling down in here after a bracing walk in the stunning scenery around.
Again, there’s everything one could possibly need, from an Alexa Echo to a Smart TV which we found easy to use. There’s also a selection of books and board games available. We’d been warned the WiFi wasn’t the best but it was perfectly good for our needs.

Upstairs are two beautiful bedrooms and the bathroom. The spacious master bedroom features exposed beams and dual aspect windows. We slept on an incredibly comfy king sized bed perfectly made up with crisp linens.

The second bedroom was just as beautifully decorated with two full sized single beds, a particularly charming room for children but it could just as easily accommodate two adults.

There’s no bath – but the shower room felt brand new, and like everywhere else was spotlessly clean. Quality toiletries were available along with fluffy bathrobes for the adults.

Why Stay in Tideswell
The pretty village of Tideswell is often referred to having ‘the cathedral of the Peaks’. It’s an excellent location for exploring the best of the Peak District including Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth House etc.
Julie provides incredibly detailed and helpful information about where to walk and cycle nearby, local attractions, eateries etc.
We dined at Sal’s Italian because it’s literally over the road – but I’ve heard really good things about The Merchant’s Yard and Tideswell Lounge. Another bonus is that there are four pubs in the village.
