Last week I fell in love with the Chakra Lounge. Situated in a gorgeous old building on Rutland Square, the Chakra Lounge brings some seriously boujee vibes to Bakewell. We adored the fresh, contemporary Indo-Western, vegetarian menu.

Described as a lounge café, there’s a relaxed, laid back vibe. Grab one of the books from the bookshelf and relax with a coffee and cake or lunch, and watch the world go by. I loved the colourful, quirky décor, punctuated by neon signs.
We sat at Table 6 (round the corner from the bar, up a step and by the mirror) which had magnificent views over the pretty market town and then out on to surrounding countryside.

Chakra Lounge Bakewell menu
The Chakra Lounge have a passion for creating Indo-Western cuisine packed full of punchy flavours. This is definitely not your average “Indian restaurant” that you might find on any British high street. Food at the Chakra Lounge is fresh, vibrant and beautifully presented. It’s Indian inspired but with a very boujee, western twist.
The Bakewell Chakra Lounge has an exclusively vegetarian menu, that’s divided into small and large plates. There are lots of vegan options. Much of the produce is locally sourced including coffee from Peak Bean and speciality teas from Vintage Teas.

Whilst I waited for my friend I ordered a beetroot vanilla latte. This was beautifully presented and delicately flavoured. As someone who doesn’t take sugar in coffee, I did find this a bit sweet – but it was nice to try something different. They also serve matcha lattes, Dirty Chai plus a whole range of ‘regular’ barista made coffees.

I ordered Chakra Lounge’s spin on avocado toast: awaara avocado and tomato sangam which would be vegan except I added halloumi for an extra £2. This dish consists of white toast with smashed avocado, sundried tomatoes, coriander chutney, chia seeds and balsamic glaze. It was a huge portion and utterly delicious.

My friend had a posh toastie which was also an enormous portion. She also thoroughly recommends the samosa chat. In fact, she raved about it so much that I can’t imagine not ordering it on my next visit. The carrot cake also looked pretty special…
Overall, we had such a lovely time. What a fabulous place to have in Bakewell!
