Summer Crafts at Denby Pottery Village

[AD] We are big fans of Denby Pottery Village, particularly since having such a lovely time at their Santa experience and were recently invited to review the Summer Crafts activities.

Great value family day out

Denby Pottery Village is one of my top recommendations for a nice outing with kids. On the days when you just need to get out of the house for a few hours, it’s somewhere you can have a really nice potter about for free! Situated just outside Belper and straight off the A38 so it’s easy access from pretty much anywhere in Derbyshire, it’s really easy to park (for free!), there’s a small play area with a couple of picnic benches, koi carp to look at etc.

Summer Crafts at Denby Pottery Village

Each week over the summer holidays there is a different crafting activity – so there’s always something new to try – and proudly take home! All the sessions take place in the Craft Studio, a beautifully inspiring space complete with a potter’s wheel.

My daughter absolutely loved decorating her very own cap, and making a gorgeous mobile and was delighted to take home her creations. She has already enquired several times about when we are going back!

The staff in the craft studio are really lovely – Cathie could not have been more patient or helpful and my daughter really took a shine to her.

All craft activities are £7 per child and need pre-booking and adult supervision. They’re suitable for children aged three upwards (my daughter is six and was totally engaged). This also includes a ‘just for fun’ Rock Hunt that can be done after your session. Fifty minute sessions are run hourly between 10am-4pm each day throughout the school holidays.

Here’s one Denby made earlier…

Paint a pot

If you book a summer craft session you can also choose to paint a pot during your 50-minute experience if time allows. Additional costs apply which can be paid for on the day.

I’d definitely recommend painting a pot at Denby – it’s such a great set up and there’s no need to worry about mess/cleaning up at home etc. We had plenty of time to do both the summer crafts and paint a pot within the allotted time but depending on the age and attention span of your children, and how far you’ve travelled, you could always do this on a return visit. Or if you are concerned about time, you could always book a separate time slot for pottery painting here.

Lunch at Denby Pottery Village

After all that crafting we were rather hungry and so headed to Bourne’s Coffee Shop & Bistro for lunch. It’s very family friendly in here too – with swift canteen style service, a decent kids menu and a small play table. My jacket potato was delicious and very generously portioned.

Overall, we had a great time and definitely recommend Summer Crafts at Denby Pottery Village.

Family Friendly Cafés in Belper

What makes a café family friendly? In my mind, there are a few things that contribute to a family friendly coffee shop. Ideally, it’s easy to park – or can be combined with a pushchair friendly walk, it’s pram friendly – i.e. not too many steps to navigate and space between tables. It’s great if…
