Dunston Hall Bistro is the lovely new café at Dunston Hall Garden Centre. I posted about it today on my Instagram stories and I have genuinely never had as many people ask where something is from. So here’s the low down…
I have actually blogged about Dunston Hall Bistro before, but very much focused on why it’s a great option for family friendly dining (reason number one is the lovely play area – read the blog for the rest) – but that was a while ago now and I’ve been several times since. Although we have had lunch once, more often than not I’ve been for breakfast.

I’ve been with a fellow freelancer where we sat for hours (without being rushed out!), I’ve been on my own a couple of times, and although I haven’t yet been to the evening events, I think it would make a perfectly pleasant date location. Just be aware it is very much in a garden centre. However, the bistro itself is as nice as anywhere and is very tastefully decorated.
The food is gorgeous! And the coffee is good, and they make a perfectly decent flat white. All the hot drinks are served with a little fruit biscotti which is delicious.

Breakfast at Dunston Hall Bistro
My two favourite things to order at Dunston Hall for breakfast are the pancakes and the avocado toast. Both are really, really good. I have had each twice and they’re always amazing.
The pancakes are thick, fluffy American style served with a good dollop of Biscoff spread, a caramelised banana and a lovely addition of crunchy nuts. Click here for other great pancake places in Derbyshire.

The avocado toast is also delicious. It’s served with chimichurri which is a really nice twist. Both times the eggs have been perfectly poached.

My husband has ordered the Full English which is pictured below. This picture is from a while back and on that occasion (a busy weekend) the waitress said absolutely no changes could be made, not even just saying ‘no beans’ for instance, which we thought was a bit odd but I don’t know if this is still current policy or was misunderstanding.

They also do a vegan breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast, a bistro cob with a choice of fillings, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, a porridge option (the current one listed on the menu is blackberry and walnut) and various toast type options. It’s honestly one of my favourite places for breakfast. I just wish they did eggs Benedict!
Service is always really good – prompt, efficient, really friendly and helpful. Basically it’s just a really nice place to go! It does get busy and I would recommend booking.
