6 Best Places for a Chesterfield Brunch

The best restaurants for a delicious Chesterfield brunch

Whether it’s breakfast or brunch, there’s been a huge surge in people eating the first meal of the day outside the home over recent years (lockdown aside!). I always think it feels like a huge treat to go out for breakfast or brunch. It’s also a much cheaper way to dine out. Whether you fancy a Full English, just coffees and pastries or pancakes, here are five of my favourite places to have a Chesterfield brunch. No faceless chains, just lovely, local, independent small businesses. Updated July 2022.

Bottle & Thyme, Knifesmithgate, Chesterfield

Bottle & Thyme is THE place to go for brunch in Chesterfield. Their eggs Benedict is my all time favourite (just be aware that what’s described on their menu is technically eggs florentine, with spinach, so remember to specify you want bacon too and remove the spinach if that’s not to your taste – personally I love it but definitely want the bacon too). I would also recommend the smashed avocado and French toast. In fact, it’s all good. You won’t be disappointed! The coffee is also exceptionally good, as is the general ambiance. Booking is highly recommended particularly at weekends although they do take walk ins if they have space.

Koo, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield

Situated at the top end of Chatsworth Road, the atmosphere at Koo is very much that of a neighbourhood café. It’s really friendly, even to dogs. I love sitting outside and watching the world go by. They even have patio heaters and cosy blankets. Their hollandaise sauce isn’t my favourite but everything else (and I have worked my way through most of their breakfast menu over the years) is delicious. Exceptionally good coffee. Booking is currently essential.

Qoozies, Steeplegate, Chesterfield

Qoozies prides itself on offering healthier fast food and is a great option for a Chesterfield brunch. There are loads of lighter options for breakfast, freshly made, vitamin filled juices and smoothies etc but I’m afraid I’m usually drawn to the more gluttonous options.

I’m a big fan of their pancakes. I also used to love the cruffins (a muffin-croissant hybrid), although I think they have sadly stopped doing these.

Qoozies are also on the City Grab food delivery app so you can enjoy one of their delicious breakfasts from the comfort of your own home. I have recently become addicted to their ‘American’ breakfast sandwich which consists of a lovely ciabatta stick filled with bacon, cheese and caramelised onion. It’s honestly so good! There’s also a deal where you can get a smoothie or juice for a discount. I recommend Rasp Blast – a delightfully refreshing mixed of raspberries, apples and elderflower.

Devonshire Arms in Middle Handley

This delightful gastro pub is less than a fifteen minute drive from Chesterfield. I visited recently and had the most wonderful eggs Benedict. The rest of the menu looked equally delicious, and I’ve already got my eye on the pancakes for my next visit. Booking currently essential.

The Bistro at Dunston Hall Garden Centre

The Bistro is a lovely, cosy café/restaurant attached to (but feels completely separate from) Dunston Hall Bistro. As such it’s easy and free to park. In the warmer months it’s a great place to take kids as there’s nice play facilities, but I recently visited solo to check out the inside properly and it’s really very nice. The food and coffee are both good. I had the banana and biscoff pancakes which were delicious. The avocado toast served with poached eggs, and interestingly, chimichurri is also really good. But there’s also the usual Full English, breakfast cobs, and vegan and vegetarian options.

Host Coffee, Clay Cross

Host Coffee in Clay Cross is a really great place for brunch. The menu is small, but so, so good. My all-time favourite is the avocado toast with added halloumi, but I’d also recommend the pancakes. The staff are lovely, the coffee’s great and they also serve some breakfast bevs!

More Chesterfield brunch places

Other places that I recommend for brunch or breakfast in Chesterfield is the Café at Libby’s and The Bradbury. I’ve also heard Junction is excellent for brunch (although not sure they serve food at the weekend).
