Thornbridge Tap Room

It’s rare that a place ticks everybody’s box (well probably not my grandparents’!) but the Brewery Tap at Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell does just that. If you’ve got someone in your group who likes the kind of craft beer that is so rightly becoming mainstream then Thornbridge is definitely worth a visit.

Alongside the regulars like Lord Marples, there’s the new Mexican beer, Favorito, and the fruit beer. In fact, you might have seen their famous Jaipur sold nationally in supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsburys- yet they’ve managed to keep the local independent heart whilst also scaling up some serious industry.

We’ve visited here a fair few times before and so can heartily recommend on a number of levels- great beer yards from where it’s brewed, the pizza is super and children are more than welcome -however it must be noted there’s no children’s menu.

In fact, the menu is a simple list of 7 pizzas with garlic bread so I shared a margherita with my 5 year old while her dad had the Hot One. Theirs are my favourite kind of pizza- thin base, not too doughy and the base not crispy. Service was super quick so you’re not waiting long- I guess this is the magic of doing a simple menu well.

The inside of the hall has got a great festival feel (in fact they do run Peakender in August- a lovely little local festival in Bakewell in August) with comfy armchairs, benches and old school tables. I really like the neon lights and the subtly integrated shop- lots of rustic wood and pallet shelves which stops short of feeling like you’re buying souvenirs.
