Breakfast at Nourish, Belper REVIEW

When I lived in Belper, Nourish was one of my favourite haunts. I was a fairly frequent diner at their stylish, comfortable bistro although had never been during the day, or indeed at all since moving away about seven years ago. It’s still run by the same team, and over the summer they celebrated their ten year anniversary – with an evening bistro menu set to return on Friday 4th November!

I was really excited to return, and when a meeting with the lovely Jo at Boom Magazine (Belper’s handbook for families) presented itself, it was the obvious place to go for a breakfast meeting.

The first thing to note is that the breakfast menu is served all day. I’ve recently done a bit of a deep dive into Belper coffee shops and Nourish’s menu definitely stood out as the one offering the most appealing choices to me personally. I love to see dishes that are a little unique and Nourish offers a toasted madame, a brilliantly named “Hangover Benedict” featuring black pudding, in addition to the usual Full English and veggie version.

I went for the smashed avo on toast (£6.50). Opting for the roasted tomatoes, pine nuts and balsamic option which I imagine would have been vegan, had I not opted to add a poached egg (for a very reasonable 50p!). The other option for the avocado toast is cured salmon and poached egg (also priced at £6.50). Various gluten free options are available.

I enjoyed my food immensely, the avocado was deliciously lemony and the tomatoes and pine nuts was a refreshing take on a familiar favourite.

Nourish is also just a beautiful place to be. From the floral archway by a local florist to the stylish, quirky décor and attentive service, it’s exactly the sort of place I love.
