[AD – PR invite] Last week I felt very lucky to be invited to an autumn event for The Laura & Becky Show, held in the private dining room at The Tickled Trout in Barlow in between Chesterfield and Sheffield. It was an incredible evening so worthy of a spot on the blog – both in terms of recommending their podcast and showcasing the private dining offerings of at The Trout.

The Laura & Becky Show
I initially met Laura and Becky by them approaching me to do a regular slot about what’s on in Derbyshire on their radio breakfast show. They’ve since set up a brilliant podcast – it’s funny and relatable and is my go-to listen (particularly when I’m driving or doing something dull at home like cleaning or ironing). They are laugh out loud hilarious.
I’m showing my age now, but I’d never even listened to a podcast before… but made the effort as they were so supportive of my blogging and I wanted to support them in return. And lo and behold, it’s opened a whole new world (much to the despair of my husband who has been trying to convert me since we met).

The autumn event
The event started with a prosecco reception and gorgeous vocals by Georgie Mills, winner of BBC’s ‘Got What it Takes’. The table was beautifully dressed with pumpkins, seasonal foliage and candles. We then enjoyed a magical evening of high end dining whilst Laura and Becky did a live recording of their podcast.
Private dining at The Top of the Trout function room
The Tickled Trout is one of my all-time favourite restaurants (read my previous review here) so I knew I was in for a treat, but I was genuinely blown away by the quality of food. I normally get seduced by the pizza and small plates menu so hadn’t fully appreciated exactly what could be on offer in terms of their fine dining offering.
Chef owner, Chris Mapp has worked in various Michelin starred restaurants, notably training under Marcus Wareing and working with Paul Ainsworth in Padstow before setting up the Tickled Trout.

Chris cooked us a delectable menu of small and sharing plates. So not only did we get to try LOADS of different dishes, but the communal nature gave a nice buzz and got everyone chatting. Chris introduced most of the dishes and spoke so passionately about the provenance of each ingredient. Much of the vegetables are grown in Chris’ own kitchen gardens – or by local villagers who swap their allotment produce for beer! We started with a delicious pumpkin and parmesan velouté – with the pumpkin grown by Village Pumpkins a short walk away.
Just some of the other highlights of the evening…

In short, it was such a fabulous evening. Laura and Becky were perfect hosts and event organisers, and there was a lovely crowd.
I would definitely recommend the function room at The Tickled Trout – it would be an amazing place for a small, intimate event such as a baby shower or to really wow a small group of corporate clients.
