Koo, Chesterfield REVIEW

Koo is a friendly, neighbourhood café at the top end of Chatsworth Road, Brampton. It’s beautifully decorated, they serve great coffee and have a really nice breakfast and lunch menu.

I used to come to Koo all the time when my daughter was little. The food and coffee was fabulous, they were always really friendly (and understanding of my, at times, feral toddler) and it was just a great place to go. Then the lockdowns happened, and I somehow fell out of the habit of going. I’ve been a couple of times recently and thought it was about time it had a spot on the blog.

I understand that it changed hands since I used to go frequently, but everything I used to love is still there. The coffee’s still great, it’s still gorgeous and even the menus are familiar. Last night they won a Love Chesterfield award for Café of the Year.

There’s a decent breakfast menu – all the usuals you’d expect plus some more unique choices like The Ranch  (a hearty combo of Cumberland sausage, herb potatoes, chorizo, topped with fried egg and cheese served with toasted sourdough). I also noted that the additions were very well priced. For instance, you can add halloumi to any of their dishes for just £1.20, or an egg for less than a pound!

I plumped for eggs Florentine. Two perfectly poached free range eggs, topped a very generous portion of fresh spinach topped with lots of creamy hollandaise sauce on toast. What’s not to love?

Some of the most popular breakfast options are also served on the lunch menu (a good option should one be hungover).

The lunch menu includes lots of hearty favourites, sandwiches, salads (including a warm beetroot option which sounds perfect for autumn).

It’s also the sort of place you can go just for coffee and cake.

Go for:

Delicious breakfast and lunch options, a very tempting cake counter and great coffee. Attractive inside and outside seating.

Details:

Koo, 475A Chatsworth Rd, Chesterfield, S40 3AD.

I’ve always managed to get a table just walking in (and if it is full, head to the equally great Cafe at Libby’s next door) but you can book by phone 01246 205604 or by emailing info@koochesterfield.co.uk

Open seven days a week, until 4pm.

Lots of covered outside seating.

Dog friendly – there are water bowls outside and treats in a jar inside.

Family friendly – If you were taking a pushchair I would mention on booking as the tables are quite close together. I can’t remember if there are baby changing facilities or not, but the service is really prompt.

Lots of street parking on Chatsworth Road.
