Tagg Lane Dairy – the best ice cream in the Peak District

It’s not often I write a review after such a brief visit but I was so blown away by the quality of the ice cream at Tagg Lane Dairy that it absolutely deserves a spot on the blog. I’m not actually a massive fan of ice cream – but the Italian style artisan gelato here is so mind-blowingly good. Pistachio is one of my favourite flavours so when I saw Tagg Lane Dairy served pistachio and white chocolate? I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. OMG it was amazing. I really don’t have the words to express quite how good it was. If you’ve never been here before – you must go. Immediately!

Tagg Lane Dairy is situated just outside the picturesque village of Monyash not far from Bakewell (and easily accessed from the road between Buxton and Ashbourne) in the heart of the Peak District and just a stone’s throw from the High Peak Trail, a popular walking and cycling route. The dairy is family-owned and independently operated and home to a herd of grass-grazed Jersey cows who produce the most delicious natural dairy products.

This working farm hosts an ice cream parlour, café and small farm shop selling milk and beef. However, top billing goes to the award-winning artisan gelato freshly made on site, hand crafted from the finest all natural ingredients and slowly churned to perfection made using the milk and cream from the family’s Jersey herd. In addition to the much loved classics, expect a tantalising range of new and exciting ice cream flavours. On the day I visited, options included mango, chocolate, Ferrero Rocher, Lotus Biscoff, salted butter caramel, stracciatella (an Italian style chocolate chip), honeycomb, strawberry, morello cherry, vanilla and Jersey Gold. The hardest part of your visit may be choosing which to go for! It isn’t cheap, my single scoop tub cost something like £3.65 but I honestly think that’s the best money I’ve spent lately!
