[AD] Monsal Head offers a world-class view of the Peak District, and perfectly situated to enjoy the stunning scenery, with it’s awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets, is the delightful Hobbs Café.
Thankfully Hobbs’ prime location hasn’t lead to any kind of complacency about the quality of its food and drink offering. The small but perfectly formed light bites menu (currently sandwiches, quiches etc) and a tempting cake counter laden with mostly homemade bakes, including the ever popular Bakewell tart, is served with proper barista coffees and quality speciality teas.

A Peak District hidden gem
Last autumn I visited for a cosy afternoon tea, and was impressed with the generous portions savoury and sweet treats. Hobbs Café were keen to personalise the experience, offering a choice of sandwich and quiche then more-ish kronuts (a croissant doughnut hybrid) instead of scones, at our request. They’ve even done brunch themed afternoon teas before featuring sausage and bacon sandwiches etc! Read more here – and book by sending a message on social media or email.

Family owned by Kim and Nick Morgan, this bijou venue has a quirky, eccentric feel. Vibrantly coloured walls showcase the work of local artists and there’s a cosy, eclectic mix of décor. Much has been sustainably sourced from local auction house, Bamfords in Bakewell, juxtaposed with striking global influences. I particularly love the constellation of handmade Vietnamese lanterns.

Fabulous future plans
The Morgan family have undoubtedly brought a breath of fresh air to the old cottage style buildings. They’re busy renovating what is set to be a gorgeous AirBnB apartment which will be an incredibly unique place to stay in an unrivalled location.
Hobbs have recently opened “Monsal’s Enchanted Emporium” a magical space dedicated to sweets, treats and ice creams. Hobbs will be dishing up delicious artisan ice cream from Snugburys and a range of other fun treats.
Hobbs Café is a very special place for all sorts of reasons (not least that view!) and I urge you to discover it for yourself.

Could you please tell me if the local bus from Bakewell stops nearby Hobbs.
Hi Heather. I understand there is a bus stop next to the hotel (which is next to Hobbs) and that buses run daily except for Sundays but please do check online. Best wishes, Molly
