Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer

[AD] Emma Britton is a female-founded, Derbyshire-based and multi-award-winning interiors brand. Renowned for her striking glass splashbacks and her iconic glassware, both inspired by British flora and fauna and regularly featured in the most prestigious homes and interiors publications, Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer has built her career on combining practicality with the timeless beauty of everlasting blooms.

Derbyshire Designer

Emma’s interest in working with glass started during her time at Loughborough University, where she graduated in Printed Textiles. After working in the glass industry, Emma saw the potential to create something different and previously unseen.

By putting hand designed floral patterns onto glass for splashbacks, Emma united the decorative and the practical, revolutionising the possibilities for interior design which traditionally relied on fabric and wallpapers to introduce colour and detail.

“I see glass as a canvas on which to apply pattern, sometimes opaque, sometimes translucent. My design style is inspired by British suburbia and I’m fascinated by 20th century interiors and how people decorate their homes today. Although my patterns are contemporary, they are rooted in nostalgia.”

Emma started her business in 2010, with a grant for East Midlands Graduates and her now signature ‘Foxglove’ splashback pattern.

Emma’s designs are inspired by the garden of her suburban childhood home, full of fuchsias grown by her grandfather. She saw their shapes and textural qualities as something special, inspiring a love of architectural flowers and her slightly nostalgic aesthetic.

The brand has gone from strength to strength. Emma’s design style is coveted by the glossiest homes and interiors magazines, has been featured by Getty Images, and she’s worked on commissions for the RHS, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and The Hepworth Wakefield, to name a few.

Most recently, Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer has created a range of glassware exclusively for Chatsworth House inspired by their iconic Chinese Wallpaper.

All of Emma’s work continues to be decorated and hand-finished in her Ilkeston studio in the heart of Derbyshire.

Gorgeous Botanical Glassware

I have long been a fan of Emma Britton’s floral glassware. Not only is it exquisitely beautiful  but also highly functional. From glamorous crystal champagne coupes to robust and stackable tumblers, to stylish, decorative vases and carafes, Emma’s award-winning designs make a charming  addition to any home, and thoughtful gifts.

From the enduring appeal of Emma’s debut collection, ‘Up the Garden Path’ featuring hand painted foxgloves, hydrangeas, sweet peas and poppies inspired by British suburban gardens, to her more recent collections, a unifying ethos is of bringing favourite garden flowers into the home all year round.

I love the ethos behind ‘The Meadow’ collection featuring wildflower seed heads and grasses, celebrating the role they play in UK biodiversity, enabling wildlife, flora and fauna to thrive.
