Derbyshire’s Hottest Bites this September

To supplement my popular What’s On guide, here’s a guide to some of the most exciting food related news in Derbyshire this month. From pop-up events and special collaborations to the most exhilarating new launches, here’s what Derbyshire foodies need to know this month…

Peak District Pop-Ups

The George at Alstonefield continues with their popular series of collaborations by welcoming Luke Hawkins from The Blind Bull to their sublimely unspoilt pub on Thursday 14th September. Local favourite Luke Hawkins will be cooking up a storm with resident Head Chef of The George, 4 rosette trained Jordan Hemsil. The delectable menu features lobster and turbot and culminates with Baron Bigod, plum, a honey, apple and miso doughnut (featuring The George’s own honey) served with Hay ice cream – and is priced at £90 per person. Riverside Kitchen at David Mellor in Hathersage is hosting a pop-up Supper Club on Friday 15th of September. Expect a sociable evening of fine food, exceptional service in exquisite surroundings. Canapés, aperitifs and a carefully crafted seasonal three course menu, featuring cooking on the fire table, all accompanied by live music. £65 per person and booking is essential.

Exciting new launches

The Pattenmakers Arms, a beautifully restored bar and restaurant nestled in the backstreets of Duffield has just launched a new summer menu, full of fresh seasonal flavours and featuring more light bites for convivial casual dining. Read my previous blog post about The Pattenmakers.

Another of Derbyshire’s most exciting new venues, the Machine Inn in Ashbourne is starting Sunday lunches from the 17th September. Expect a beautifully relaxed pub with a fine dining aesthetic. It’s incredibly well priced too, with two courses from £21. Find more great places for Sunday lunch across Derbyshire.

The Brewhouse at Melbourne Hall in South Derbyshire has teamed up with Michelin starred chef, Sat Bains to start offering Mamma Bains serving from Friday 8th September. Indulge in homestyle Punjabi delights such as lamb keema and fries, aubergine sabji with roti wrap and chickpea curry with tamarind chutney and their much-loved samosas. Read my guide to Melbourne.

Food news in Chesterfield

The newly opened terrace bar at Nonna’s on Chatsworth Road in the Brampton area of Chesterfield is running a banging offer. Choose three Italian tapas style dishes and an Aperol or Campari Spritz for just £17. Mouthwatering choices include mozzarella and fig salad and smoked mackerel pate.

As always, Barca Bar at Casa has an exciting range of offers. In addition to their long running offer of Tapas Tuesday (three tapas dishes for the price of two), their popular Bottomless Brunch offering is now bi-monthly for twice the fun. Plus they have a great Steak Sensation offer available at the weekends. Enjoy a 16oz Walton Lodge steak, twice-cooked chips and a bottle of house wine for just £50. Read my previous review of Barca.

Peddler Market returns to Chesterfield on Friday 15th (4pm – 10pm) and Saturday 16th September. Taking over New Square there will be some of the best street food the UK has to offer, alongside great craft drinks, live music and much more. Traders include Brum Mi, Kebab Cartel and Let’s Taco ‘Bout It.
